I saw a preview of this a bit ago, and I think it is going to make a few politicians clutch their pearls. Be sure to check out OUTRAGE on HBO starting this Monday, October 5th at 9pm (ET/PT).
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
An official selection of the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival, OUTRAGE investigates the hidden lives of some of the country’s most powerful policymakers – from now-retired Idaho Senator Larry Craig, to former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevy – and examines how these and other politicians have inflicted damage on millions of Americans by opposing gay rights. Equally disturbing, the film explores the mainstream media’s complicity in keeping those secrets, despite the growing efforts to “out” them by gay rights organizations and bloggers.
Through a combination of archival news footage and exclusive interviews with politicians and members of the media, OUTRAGE probes the psychology of a double lifestyle, the ethics of outing closeted politicians, and the double standards that the media upholds in its coverage of the sex lives of gay public figures. As Barney Frank, perhaps the best-known openly gay member of Congress explains, “There is a right to privacy, but not a right to hypocrisy. It is very important that the people who make the law be subject to the law.”

It won’t help you lose the 20 pounds, that’s for sure.
I can’t decide if I want to write a post about the Nobel Prizes coming up this week, or the already announced Ig Nobel prizes. The latter are much more fun than the former.

Incapsulate it all in one post, I say –
I’ve had no TV for 2+ months.
At first it was because of my having to move again! & not setting up my cable, but now the real reason is that most nights I’ve been reading – so tranquil, it’s great -
I’ve been averaging 1 book ev. 2-3 nights –
But I do need to get the TV up & running & will do before tomorrow’s HBO special fo sure -

Wow.. nice to go with no tv for two months. I find myself being excited that there are so many new shows to be into this season. Lame, I know, but it always give me something to look forward to and stories to ponder…
I think they are starting a book review column on Page 2, so hopefully someone will recommend something really interesting that I might get into.

I never thought I could exist without TV (esp. the cable programs I’ve gotten hooked on & MSNBC of course) but it’s sooo relaxing to dig into a good novel.
I’ll check out the Pg. 2 book review – I’ll have some writers I can definitely recommend !

I used to be quite the book fiend, but in recent years I just stopped reading for the most part.
I am not sure when the book club will be starting, but I reckon it will be soon.
Are you reading Fiction or Non?

Ooops, got to answer this before bedtime :
I’ve been reading fiction lately, not in the mood for non-fiction :
James Patterson, Dean Koontz, Stuart Woods, Scott Turow.
About to start The Secret Man, Bob Woodward.
Most are older novels, but I’m playing catch-up -

I have been reading, a chapter at a time, “Pride & Prejudice & Zombies” by Jane Austin and Seth Grahame-Smith. Zombies make Austin WAY more interesting!

I hope they do one (a comedy) featuring teabaggers at some point.
Interview them & we’ll see that most of them don’t have a clue they’re voting against everything that will benefit their lives.

There was a bit on the Daily Show, or Colbert Report, about the teabaggers and how stupid they were really came across loud and clear.
They are to dumb to realize they are protesting against their own best interests. The products of an inept education, and the willingness to be told what they should need and what they should think.

But it’s fodder for SO MUCH humor
– I mean that video of Billionaires for Wealthcare said it all –
I really think I’ll have to join them.
Nothing can bring the absurdity of them home like comedic satire ….

Billionaires for Wealthcare was brilliant! Hopefully Michael Moore will take on the crazy teabaggers for his next film, or maybe Kevin Smith.

There has been a lot of buzz about this show as well as controversy in outing people. But if you’re working at taxpayer expense against the very life you live, that’s hypocrisy and IMO needs exposing. I’m interested in seeing how the creators handle this.

I hate forced outing. In fact, I’m fine with the “Tell” part, but not so down with the “Ask” part.
honestly, I would not want anyone to ask me about my sexuality.

Let’s see how the creators handle this. Like I said, if we’re talking about politicians who vote against a segment of society and then do the opposite, I don’t see the difference between exposing an affair as in Sanford, Ensign, Paul Stanley, etc. But then I’ll be able to better judge after I’ve seen the show. If it comes across as in poor taste or offensive then I could possibly change my mind.

And I believe a person is entitled to his/her privacy.
But let’s be clear, if they are living contrary and voting contrary at the taxpayer dime and not being honest about who they are, then maybe they should consider another line of work.

exposing hypocrisy vs. outing – way different
elected officials vs. military service persons – way different.
you know I am the first one in line to expose the hypocrites. I just think service personnel, be they cops or soldiers, should be allowed their privacy
legislators and lawmakers – not so much

I didn’t seen the film when it came out, I think last May, but wanted to. I agree about outing service personnel. I don’t have any problems, however, in outing legislators who live contrary to how they vote.

I wouldn’t want anyone to be outed if they wanted to remain in the closet. I also wouldn’t want those people making life harder for those who decide to live life out of the closet. The politicians are making a living out of punishing others because they are ashamed of their own feelings. That isn’t right and, in my opinion, needs to be stopped.

Isn’t it a bitch when someone makes their point in a very offensive way, when you thought you had the market on behaving that way? These politicians and figure heads need to stop expecting people to play by a different set of rules than they do. I can only hope a gob of those hypocrites are going to be humiliated. They asked for it.
