Last week 1,500 uninsured Arkansans lined up for a free health care clinic. Across the blogosphere, these free clinics are being dubbed the “Olbermann Clinics” as Keith Olbermann and his MSNBC staff made it their pet project, raising $1.2 million and arranging the clinics in states where Democratic senators were “on the fence” regarding Saturday’s health care vote.
It is unclear if the Olbermann clinics had any influence on Mary Landrieux (D-LA) and Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), the final two holdouts for the 60 senate votes necessary to move the debate forward, but it sure seems safe to say it sure didn’t hurt.
Senator Lincoln said today, “I’m thinking about the 450,000 Arkansans who have no health insurance. I’m not thinking about my re-election, the legacy of a president or whether Democrats or Republicans are going to be able to claim victory in winning this debate.”
President Bill Clinton was asked about his notable absence from the Arkansas clinic. Clinton told firedoglake that he could not attend the clinic because of Olbermann’s “politicizing” of the project.
Bill Clinton told FDL’s Eve Gittelson that it would be problematic for him to attend a free medical clinic being held in Little Rock, Arkansas [held Saturday] because MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann had “politicized” the event.” He indicated that some were turning the event into a primary kickoff against Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln.Eve ran into Clinton Thursday in the gift shop of the Clinton Library. She’s in Arkansas covering the Keith Olbermann’s free clinic event, organized by the National Association of Free Clinics. The former President is in town for the 5th anniversary of the Clinton Library.
Grow up, Bill, and get over it!!!
On Wednesday’s “Countdown” last week, the National Association of Free Clinics announced a third mass clinic for the uninsured in Kansas City. It will be the first 2-day clinic December 9th and 10th, and according to Nicole Lamoureux, executive director of the association, it is designed as “a national version” of the Houston and Little Rock clinics. So it’s not aimed at Senator Claire McCaskill, per se, but rather to make “a huge statement” about the crisis of Americans postponing vital, relatively low-cost medical care because they don’t have insurance.
Kansas City was chosen, Lamoureaux told Keith Olbermann, because it has a “robust” free health clinic network, unlike other parts of the country; and, of course, it helps that we are in the middle of the country.

We have pool tables on the newest ships so I can’t see seasickness being a problem. The gig to get is the piano bar… 10 till 12:30 every night singing and playing alone. Lot’s more money than the guys on the orch and almost full passenger priveleges.

An Old Tar once told me the trick to do when you are feeling seasick is… when you are lying down,in the bunk, keep one foot on the floor.
I tried it………… broke my arm…….. I was in the top bunk and fell out.

“politicized it?” Oh, please, BC. “Grow up” is right, kellygrrrl.
Repubs have been “politicizing” health care for years. Everything they do is through the warped lens of their warped ideology. This health clinic helped thousands of people, period, stop. Thank you, Keith Olbermann.

LOL. He’s never liked being second fiddle. Remember that long, long, long walk to the stage at the DNC in 2000? He absolutely took the spotlight away from Gore. I’ve never forgotten that.

Big round of applause for KO!
(Report comment)
First of all, when has Bill Clinton ever “not” politicized anything?
Secondly, he needs to get over his petty feud with KO because KO dared to criticize Hillary during the primaries.
Grow up Bill and start acting like somebody who gives a damn. You messed up healthcare the first time around, the least you can do is get on board with this bill and give it your all.

It’s likely because his wife is SoS that he shies away a bit from seeming to support an event negative to Lincoln. That is so not a message the WH wants to be perceived as being behind.
Otherwise, I think he should support the bill 150%.
November 22nd, 2009 at 2:52 pm
(Report comment)
One dynamic that is so ironic, is that the WH is so desperate for the support of the Blue Dawgies that were Hillary’s mainstay. Hell, we’re all desperate for their support of health care reform. But I don’t think I would have predicted that during the primaries.
Buzz has it that both Clintons have been twisting whatever congressional moderate dem arms they could to get them to compromise on a bill.

Well they should, and this is their mistake. If they don’t start putting pressure on the conservaDems then they won’t get anything of worth passed.
