Can you believe that the holiday season is upon us once again? I’m watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in a state of suspended disbelief. (And not just because Gloria Gaynor just performed.) Despite the fact that I’ve been baking since Tuesday and chiseling away at my Christmas crafts projects for several weeks, it seems we arrived at November 26 at warp speed.
It felt obligatory to do a post about gratitude today. Of a certainty, the dreadful economy and swirling political hailstorms are anxiety inducing … but counting one’s blessings can almost universally put it all into perspective.
I’m sure that for many of us family occasions are cherished and charming. For others, perhaps dreaded and demonically demanding. That “eccentric”, egotistical uncle we like to reference, the one with a racist/sexist/xenophobic capper for any discussion? He never misses a Thanksgiving. He and the equally colorful auntie popped their first Schlitz at six a.m . and aren’t putting them down until cocktails are served. Their eldest, fresh out of rehab, has been blogging at Stormfront and cannot wait to share his latest opus on the Muslim Kenyan pinko commie fascist marxist racist apologist zionist socialist ‘litist president. It’s a party.
If you were to say grace before your tantalizing feast today, what would you most want to say? As a twist to the hypothetical question, a magic spell will descend on everyone at the table and erase all recollection of your words that are less than … gracious. So candor is allowed, and without the Larry Davidian repercussions.
Happy Thanksgiving, all!

I continue to be thankful for you guys.
And for my cats, without whom I would be very lonely. I wish I could say I am thankful for my family all the time, but………………..
I am thankful I have lived to see President Obama and his family in the White House, and to know that we are trying to clean up the mess left by W.
And that’s all.

You’re welcome. While this quote is personally applicable, I also think it describes our nation’s leadership under Obama.

Well, what has surely been the worst decade I can remember in my lifetime, I am thankful that we seem to have sane adults behind the wheel finally attempting to bring us out of the ditch.
I am grateful to have such a great “online family” to keep me from believing that the entire nation has gone whacko.
