I wouldn’t exactly call it “beautiful” here — but relatively speaking — we are simply VISUALIZING Spring.

we cranked that heater up and we went and bought capris and white jeans and t-shirts and tanks.

If you get an itouch or iphone, make sure you get your money’s worth out of it. I know lots of folks who waste the capabilities on it by just doing facebook and paying some games. I have my whole music library and photo library on mine. Lots of videos (I got a DVD ripper program and put all sort of movies, documentaries on it), audiobooks. And I sync my Safari bookmarks, use the address book, and notepad. There is even an app to download the Kindle Books for $10 each. Virtually it is a little computer. I love it!

I intend to put all my music library and photos on mine too. Will download some apps, esp one for keeping track of calories and nutrients. Was also thinking of some videos and definitely books. My music download has audiobooks and thinking of trying that too. I didn’t know you needed to rip DVD’s but that sounds like a cool idea too. I’ll definitely have a few games. Stuff to pass time when waiting, in part. The download for Kindle sounds great too. I figure I’ll have a lot of stuff to explore. Thanks for the good advice. You must have the 64 gig, the one with the most memory?

    [Reply]

    zoozey

    (Report comment)

No, mine is the 16 gig, and it’s more than enough (for me). Mine is one of the first generation. I know the newer ones have mega gigs.

You can rip your own CDs onto your itunes library. But DVDs can’t go on Itunes without a program. Everything you sync on there, I think, has to go thru itunes. The DVD ripper cost me 40 bucks, and I just downloaded it straight to my pooter. People have told me there are free ones out there.

You can also purchase and rent movies, purchase audiobooks, documentaries, tv shows direct from itunes. I sometimes rip the audiobooks from my public library onto my itunes library. The Memphis library even has an online audiobook download site. I bet yours does, too. They’re free to download and you have about two weeks and then they disappear off your library.

Can you sync mp3 files to itunes? I have lots of downloaded and ripped mp3 files on Windows Media Player. I was thinking of getting a 32, but if you are doing all of that with a 16, then maybe I’ll get a 16 gig.

    [Reply]

    (Report comment)

They would know at the Apple store, or there is so much online about converting the Windows stuff. I have a Mac, so the syncing is pretty much a go from the start. I am pretty sure that your music files all go thru itunes, but that may have changed; and it may be different syncing from a Windows pooter.

If there isn’t a huge price diff, the 32 would be nice. But when you sync, you don’t have to sync everything. You can uncheck the vids you’ve already seen, or uncheck some of the music library, apps, etc. you don’t use much. It stays on the Itunes pooter library; but you can pick and choose what gets synced onto the itouch.

It’s really cool, too, that you can automatically download stuff wirelessly direct onto it. Movies, music, apps, podcasts. I don’t have wireless at home, but I use it at the hotels. Then when you sync it to your computer, all that goes onto your itunes library if you want it to.

My one criticism of the Apple ipod line is that they come with NO directions to speak of. They are convinced that they are so user friendly that they think they’re being cool doing it that way. My brother gave me mine, and he is Mr. Apple/Macintosh. If I hadn’t had him showing me all the stuff it would do, I wouldn’t be using all the capabilities. It is the reason that people don’t use all the stuff, I think.

when I first ventured into the Mac world years ago I was quite truly struck by the complete lack of instructions … and then I was struck by the complete lack of need for instructions.

the only thing that threw me was transferring stuff from PC to Mac. But even that was not that difficult, just a little scary, as I feared losing data like photos or music

A friend has an iphone and is part of the inspiration for this. He’s a fellow geek so I’ll have someone to help me too. I looked up a page about all that itunes will do, and it does accept all types of files, does lots of cool stuff. I think that was not the case for the original ipod. I’m anxious to try that ‘genius mix’.

These are mostly ’seedy’ glass….clear glass with bubbles in it. Four pieces of colored glass in four corners of each piece. They are for an antique cupboard…I have the doors to fit them into too. I like being shut in and doing glass or woodworking. I’d say remodeling, but that always involves too many trips to the home center/hardware store.

Came home and it looked like the ad decorator had been in there. I think she went up and down stairs 3 times. in and out of the spindles, in the living room and around the chairs in the dining room. “Bipolar” kids to get new label:

“Since the mid-1990s, the number of children diagnosed with bipolar disorder has increased a staggering 4,000 percent. And that number has caused a lot of controversy in the world of child psychiatry.

Doctors faced with kids struggling with explosive moods felt the diagnosis was appropriate and said that the bipolar medications they gave to children worked. Research psychiatrists worried that the children were being given a label that wasn’t right for them, and saddled with the sentence of a serious mental illness for the rest of their lives.

In a move that could potentially change mental health practice all over America, the American Psychiatric Association has announced that it intends to include a new diagnosis in its upcoming fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual — and hopes that new label will be used by clinicians instead of the bipolar label. The condition will be called temper dysregulation disorder, and it will be seen as a brain or biological dysfunction, but not as a necessarily lifelong condition like bipolar.”

Oh, good grief! First it was ADHD, now these. Ofcourse, there are valid cases of these things. But these parents will not admit that that most of the cases is the parenting. In most cases I see pretty well behaved children at work. But in the instance where I do see really bad behavior, the parent is either very irritable with the child–often to the point that they act like they don’t even like the child–, very passive, or the same way themselves.

4000% is the key. That’s absurd.

That is just crazy – 4,000 percent! Explosive moods? Good heavens, send them outside to play to run off pent up energy.

I heard the tailend of a great special on NPR – a study done in a school where vigorous physical exercise – every day – worked wonders. Kids _concentrated_ more, _focused_ more in class.

But in so many schools – gym is cut. Or running outside on the playground is not allowed (honestly. Take my daughter’s school…. ) perhaps because little Bobby will skin his knee. Whatever.

That along with the deletion of Arts in the schools has reduced them to a bleak, despairing 21st century version of the workhouse.

Everything which was creative and fun about school is now missing replaced by rote memorization of “The Test”. Is it any wonder these kids are angry and frustrated?

Happy birthday, Ronald Reagan”) to a roomful of happy tea partiers. You didn’t have to pore over it line by line to know that no work went into it: It was butterscotch pudding made from a box, add hot water and stir…

Miss Sarah knows where the cameras are, and she has pizzazz, and the tea partiers whooped and yelled for her standard Republican stump speech, which is like paying $750 for a hotel room and finding no clean towels and a lot of dead cockroaches and then circling Excellent Excellent Excellent on the customer questionnaire.” – Garrison Keillor
