Sarah Palin in Canada today to speak — interesting that the one roadtrip she does NOT bring Trig along is the one which would require a Passport. hmmmmmmm

also too … she spoke at the Right to Life gathering in Ohio yesterday … and used the “hand notes” gag AGAIN … and somehow attempted to claim that writing notes on her hand is BIBLICAL and she’s just like JEEBUS

MsDoc, if you’re going to rant about education, please do touch on the the Rightwing meme du jour … some are now calling all the student protests of March 4 an act of selfish “MEism” —

you know, cuz there’s nothing at all selfish and “MEistic” about the anti-govt anti-tax anti-healthcare wingnuts

“We need to preserve traditional values for the future of our children. Children must be raised with morals and principles. As a society, we must provide them with a secured and loving environment that allows them to flourish.”

Those are words of California state Sen. Roy Ashburn (R-Bakersfield) at a rally he sponsored to protest the dangers of gay marriage back in 2005.

Ashburn has now taken a “leave of absence” from the day job after getting picked up on a DUI after leaving a gay night club on Wednesday morning.

Ramming and Cramming and Jamming, Oh My!!!

the Rethug Talking Point du jour is that the Democrats are RAMMING health care down the throats of the American people.
They are all over the teevee machine wringing their hands and trolling concern that the Dems will suffer at the polls for this evil act of health care reform

One wonders, if the Rethugs really think that this will be the death of the Dems, wouldn’t they just shut up and let the implosion happen?

I know there are times when I see clearly with my own eyes the mindblowing hypocrisy, and the simple truth about what is going on, and I just cannot believe it.
as you point out about the tinfoil, sometimes I just feel that the truth is just too insane to be true … I must be overanalyzing or overly cynical or maybe even a little paranoid.

I think it’s human nature for most “normal” people to do that — you know, people who can actually see past themselves, past their own Sharpie-scribbled hand.

They are also doing it so as to put the idea into their neobot followers’ heads. They won’t think about it unless their “leaders” tell them it is evil and will hurt the Dems. It is their way of creating Monday’s water cooler talking points for the neotards.

    [Reply]

    zoozey

    (Report comment)

Oh, and I might add, that THEY will instigate the water cooler comments with things like, “can you believe Obama is ramming Obamcare down our throats?”

Then, the Dem will try to explain (in a way that a knuckle-dragger can understand, using words that aren’t too big, or ideas that are not too complex) that it already passed with a super majority, but that the reconciliation thing comes in for specifics……..

The neo will look at the Dem and say something like, “Jeeeeesh, you sure do take this stuff seriously, dontchya?” Or, “Boy, didn’t mean to get YOU goin’!” Or, “Good grief I was only kidding…”

    [Reply]

That is exactly right, Zo. It is especially true for family. The minute you try explaining something they make noises like you can’t possibly be serious or you don’t know what you are talking about or any damned thing to get out of the corner they have painted themselves into.

It is horrific and stupid, but it is also focusing on isolated incidents. I would have more generic compassion if Mr. Herbert had also addressed the horrendous statistics of violent attacks on both teachers and other students by “children” running wild in schools.

we are failing our children left and right — not only have we stripped away their education to the bare bones, but as CM”s horrific story points out, we are putting them out there like helpless prey to the millions of sick freaks who should be in prison.

at what point do we stop giving tax cuts to the yacht owners and CEOs and insist on funding our schools and prison and law enforcement?

It wasn’t a rant, Kel…it was the truth writ large.

There were years when I would go to the piles of thrown out text books in my local district to find useable books for my students in the city. Now my local district is thinking about lay-offs and school consolidation in one room while debating the issuing of i-pods and laptops to every student in another.

I think I’m living in a Tim Burton world.

I agree, and as someone who survived a school district (1960’s) that had to rely on bodies to teach high school kids, I know what Ms Doc and this lady are talking about. There were teachers teaching subjects that they knew nothing about and others who really had no business teaching at all. The high school failed accreditation all the years I went there.
If you stop to think it thru, this business is just the chickens coming home to roost writ large.

You may have seen that Missouri has been wrangling about the taxation of yachts.

    http://www.kansascity.com/2010/02/20/1762573/in-a-time-of-budget-cuts- yacht.html

The biggest lakes here have huge yachts and cigarette racer type power boats too. The yacht owners have been avoiding any sales tax through a special exemption. These tight budget times (Missouri constitution requires a balanced budget) are causing state legislators to attempt to close that exemption. Three bills were introduced in Jefferson City Wednesday to do just that.

There is a particularly ugly comment, first on the page, hoping that the Lake of the Ozarks dam would burst and flood Jefferson City.
