One More Reason Obama’s Victory Was so Important

Within the year the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, which is often the last word on federal matters in nine Western states including Arizona, Alaska, California, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho and Nevada, could see a dynamic shift from Conservative ideology back to a more mainstream middle of the road.

Two judgeships are currently vacant, while a third will come open next year, and a bill in Congress could add six positions to the court, increasing the number of judges to 35.

During his presidency, Bush appointed 328 judges nationwide, replacing more than a third of the federal judiciary and leaving most circuits with a majority of Republican appointees. And keep in mind Bush has already put his stamp on the 9th District Court of Appeals when he appointed two conservatives judges, Judge Sandra S. Ikuta, and Judge Jay S. Bybee, who helped write the memos guiding the CIA on the use of torture while interrogating prisoners.

If you think his first 100 days saw opposition just wait until the President begins his selection for federal judges to fill these vacancies.

The GOP is already holding up justice department appointees that would more than likely actively prosecute those who participated in torture and corrupting our system.

For those who think the ride is over, think again. The opposition will fight tooth and nail on every front from here on out.

Federal judges and the Supreme Court.

    Another sigh of relief.

Absolutely. And we have eight years of good choices — although the Rethugs will fight them, as Surfer says. I also wonder what some of those damn Bluedog Dems will do.

Boy, you’re not kidding. What a disappointment he’s been. But that’s the kind of Democrat we get in Indiana.

One thing the President has going in his favor. Both Senators Snowe and Collins were original members of the “Gang of 14.” Senator Snowe, incidentally, was the organizer of the group.

Neither Snowe nor Collins will support a filibuster.

There are many huge fights in front of the president and this is just one.

This is a good reason why we need to continue to support President Obama, and show that support whenever necessary.

I have never considered once that the ride is over and for some, the ride is just gonna get worse and worse. This in fact may end up being the longest and hardest four years of any seen before.

An intersting point is that, if the Dems were to institute the “nuclear option”, the president could also add a couple of Supremes, making the number 11 (it’s been higher). That could switch the balance from 5-4 con to 6-5 Liberal.

I can’t wait to see President Obama out wit every stinking one of those pubes. He is very gifted in getting his way. I have noticed that those who try and obstruct him, do so at their own peril. Brilliance right before my eyes!!
