Flaming is a hostile and insulting interaction between Internet users. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame_war

No flaming. Don’t deliberately insult someone personally in order to get a rise out of them or to make a point in a debate. The good-natured insults you throw at each other are fine. In other words, be civil with everyone else here at Free Range Talk

If flaming does occur, here is how it is going to be handled:

  1. The 1st offense gets a written warning. This is your chance to disagree with the decision that your post or comment was flaming. You may win your case, you may not.

  2. The 2nd offense means a three-day suspension with a statement about mending your ways

  3. The 3rd offense earns a one-week suspension with above statement repeated

  4. The 4th offense means goodbye forever, no appeals.

You will receive emails at the address we have on file if you are violating this policy.

We have an appeals process if you think you have been unfairly targeted. Submit your concerns to admin@freerangetalk.com along with any supporting evidence that you have. It will then be examined by a board of admins and editors to determine if your privileges should be reinstated. The decision of this board is final.

If you have been sanctioned and have no more flames, you will be reinstated after a period of ninety days.

Posting here on Free Range Talk is a privilege, not a right. You have to earn your way to author, columnist, editor or admin status.

Status Change – When you are first registered here you come in with the status of subscriber. A subscriber is a person who can read and comment on articles, though they cannot post an article. To have your status changed from subscriber to author you must let us know, in writing, that you are interested in becoming an author. The admins and editors will weigh in with their opinions and observations at that time. If your status is not changed, you will be informed in writing with the reasons why.

If we follow these simple policies I think everyone’s experience here will be better because of it.
